A new charity has been formed in Glenrothes with the goal of putting some excitement into the town.
Ability 4 All will be operating from Unit 3 in the Castleblair Business Centre and boasts a timetable crammed full with a variety of different events.
The unit has undergone a major refurbishment and now boasts two dance studios, a games hall, a canteen and three retail units as well as space to hold other indoor events.
The charity is the brainchild of lifelong Glenrothes resident Ross Barrie, who said he wanted to do something for the town.
“It’s basically to put something back into the community,” he said.
“I’ve been in this town all my life and to be honest there’s very little to do.
“I’ve got kids of my own and they’ve nowhere to go.
“When I was a teenager there was a lot more to do. There aren’t enough community events to make people want to come to this town.”
Ross, who runs his own accountancy firm, Barrie Bookkeeping and Payroll Solutions Ltd, put up the funding himself to get the building up to scratch, which also includes brand new changing room facilities, but says he’s not interested in making a profit.
He said: “We put a lot of money into it but it should pay for itself once it’s up and running.
“Any profit made will go back into the upkeep of the building.
“Eventually we’ll be looking to take on staff but in the meantime we’re asking for volunteers who’d like to give us a hand.”
With a timetable of around 20 classes the charity will officially open with a taster event on Feb 28 from 6-9.00 p.m. with half a dozen instructors giving small classes, crafters displaying goods and a swap shop for unwanted clothing, handbags or shoes, and is holding an indoor car boot sale this Saturday from 10.00 a.m.
Ross said: “Were planning the car boot every two weeks and an event of some sort every other week, whether it be a wedding show or a craft fair, just something different to get people coming to Glenrothes.
“Glenrothes Strollers are holding a football camp and we’ve got a class for pre-school footballers too.
“We’ve lots of ideas so we’ll be sitting down and planning how we’re going to take this forward.”
