But are there any other clubs who can boast the fact that two men with the same christian and surnames have achieved this feat?

At St Marks Park, Garry Thomson and eh, Garry Thomson did just that in a 6-2 win over home side Craigroyston.

Two minutes into the game Thomson Jnr brought out a fine save from Jamie Newman then within sixty seconds of that Snr had the ball in the net but it was disallowed because of offside.

This set the scene for the next fifty minutes or so as 'The Thomson Twins' set about putting the capital side to the sword.

It was Jnr who broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when he smacked the loose ball into the net after Newman had saved Snr's effort.

Barely thirty seconds later, it was Jnr's turn to set up Snr who headed home and it was 0-3 just one minute later when Jnr scored after Snr's free-kick had deflected off Craigroyston's defensive wall.

It wasn't all one-way traffic though as Liam Rolland made a great defensive clearance off the line after a great save from Ryan Linton had taken the sting out of Luke Leiper's powerful drive.

Linton made another good stop from Rees Smith to keep his goal intact before 'normal service' was resumed in the 39th minute when Elliot Ford showed good persistence to get a cross in that was perfect for Snr to head the fourth.

Within one minute of the re-start, substitute, Daniel McNab, made an immediate impact by setting up Jnr to crash home number five to complete his hat-trick.

Snr wasn't to be outdone though and in the 51st minute he struck a beauty from 15 yards following great work from Jack Hoskisson on the right flank.

That was the end of the scoring for Craig Gilbert's team but not the home side who set about restoring a wee bit of pride as they went on to enjoy their best spell in the game and thoroughly deserved to reduce the deficit with goals from Gavin Pettigrew (77 mins) and Ryan Robertson (81 mins).

The result sees Thornton fifth in the league table.
