The plan was to ease new signing Seth Bafaro into action.

The Canadian defenceman only arrived in Kirkcaldy late on Thursday night and had one skate before lacing up for his Sunday debut.

But injury to Reece Harsch saw that plan torn up as he chewed up the ice time in a full-throttle game against Cardiff Devils.

It was a whirlwind start to his pro career - and his first time back in action since March.

The 22-year old iced with Saskatoon Blades and Vancouver Vipers in the WHL but most recently was with Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, where he played 14 games in season 2021-22.

Bafaro was glad of the pre-game skate he grabbed on Saturday before watching Flyers from the stands.

“It was good to get thrown into the routine and get to know the guys and the drills a bit better,” he said.

“I only skated here on Friday morning and was pretty tired so didn’t get a lot out of it.”

Bafaro is looking to getting a full week in town under his belt before this weekend’s double-header.

“It’s a big change from college hockey,” he said. “You’re playing against older guys who are stronger and faster, and I’ve still to get used to the bigger ice sheet, but it was exciting to be signed.

“I hadn’t been to Europe before, so to get that experience and start my pro career was a really cool opportunity.

“The guys have been really good to me.

“They know this is my first year playing pro and have made me feel very welcome.”

Bafaro, who followed in his dad Mike’s skate trails by icing in the WHL, admits UK hockey is unknown territory but is looking forward to icing against its top sides.

He’s also getting accustomed to the noisy fans.

“The crowd was awesome on Sunday. I had no idea what to expect, but they were so loud and really engaged,” he said.

“I know the plan was to let me fit in, but I ended up having to jump in. This week is all about preparing for the weekend games.”

Todd Dutiaume, head coach, was pleased to se his newest signing hit the ice.

“With the dynamic among our defencemen right now, I think Seth will fit right in,” he said. “He did exactly what we asked of him at the weekend.

“He only had one training season before, so he did well.”
