European Tour golf gets set to swing back into action again

The European Tour has this week announced the resumption of its 2020 season with the launch of a new six-week ‘UK Swing’ as well as the confirmation of new dates for four Rolex Series events, including the rearranged Scottish Open. Following the suspension of the season on March 8 due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, the European Tour will return to action, initially behind closed doors, in July and run through until December. The first of the six tournaments in the UK Swing is the Betfred British Masters hosted by Lee Westwood, which will be played at Close House, near Newcastle from Wednesday July 22 to Saturday July 25. It concludes with the UK Championship at The Belfry at the end of August with all events adhering to strict safety measures. The US Open and the Ryder Cup are held during September before the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is played over St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns from October 1-4. The rescheduled Scottish Open will be played the following week. Amongst those eager to return to action is Drumoig’s Connor Syme. Connor was given a boost this week when he signed a new contract with golf management company Modest! Golf having originally signed with them as a new pro in 2017. “I’m so pleased to resign with the team at Modest!,” he said. “They’ve supported me every step of the way since I turned professional. “I’ve a great relationship with everybody in the team and I know how hard they work for me. “I’m very excited about what we can go on to achieve together into the future.” Modest! Golf owner, Niall Horan is equally thrilled to have secured the signature of the local European Tour player. “We’re incredibly delighted that Connor’s resigned on a long-term deal with Modest!,” said Horan. “Connor represents everything we try to be as a business. He’s a young, talented guy and just a genuine person who gives his all to improving every day. “Connor has an amazing family support unit back home and we’re honoured to play a small part in that.”
