Affordable homes planned for Kirkcaldy
The area where the former Posting Shopping Centre used to stand could be the site of a new housing project if plans are given the green light.
The site in the heart of Kirkcaldy’s town centre has sat empty and unused since the shopping centre was demolished in 2023.
But now a Scottish housebuilder has unveiled plans to build 135 affordable homes on the site, breathing new life and bringing much needed footfall to the middle of the town.
Cruden Homes has signed a contract with the landowner to acquire the site and working in partnership with Kingdom Group, is bringing forward proposals to regenerate the prominent brownfield site.

The proposed development will deliver 135 affordable homes, including dedicated accommodation for people aged 55 and over. The plans feature a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments alongside traditionally inspired colony-style homes.
The development represents a major investment in Kirkcaldy, transforming a long-standing vacant site into a thriving new neighbourhood.
As well as strengthening connections with the High Street, the proposals will support wider regeneration efforts by bringing more people into the town centre area and helping to increase footfall for local businesses.
The plans will now needed the stamp of approval from Fife Council.
Andrew Duncan, Land Director at Cruden, said: “Bringing this complex land deal over the line is testament to the skill, persistence and commitment of our land team.
“Their efforts have unlocked an important opportunity to deliver much-needed affordable homes while supporting the wider regeneration of Kirkcaldy town centre."
“The former Postings Shopping Centre is a prominent brownfield site with significant potential. Working in partnership with Kingdom Group, we have an opportunity to transform it into a high-quality, well-connected residential development that responds to local housing needs and makes a positive contribution to the future of Kirkcaldy town centre.
“We have already had valuable input from the local community through our consultation process and look forward to building on that as we progress towards a formal planning application.”
Tricia Hill, Asset Management & Development Director at Kingdom Group said the plans were a “welcome step forward” in bringing affordable homes to the heart of Kirkcaldy.
“In regenerating the former Postings site, we’ll be building high-quality, energy-efficient, accessible homes that will boost and benefit the community. We’re proud to work with our partners at Cruden to provide more than a home to our customers.”
Cruden has already undertaken a comprehensive programme of community engagement as part of the pre-application process, following the submission of a Proposal of Application Notice to Fife Council.
Feedback from local residents and stakeholders is helping to shape the proposals ahead of the submission of a formal planning application.
Cruden and Kingdom intend to progress the development with the submission of a formal planning application later this year.
