A charity has issued an urgent appeal for volunteers to man a charity’s shop in Kirkcaldy and Leven as it prepares to re-open after lockdown.

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s needs more people to come forward to keep the York Square premises going.

In common with all charity shops, it has been closed for months,

Now, the discount stores in the two Fife town High Streets are urgently appealing to people in the local community to volunteer their time to help keep it running.

They re-open on Monday April 26.

There are several opportunities available, from helping on the shop floor, with stock donations, and keeping the shop safe by managing socially distanced queues and informing customers of safety and hygiene measures.

The charity’s chain of 45 shops have been closed throughout the most recent lockdown resulting in a loss of over £400,000 of income.

The charity’s stores are vital in raising funds to help people living with chest, heart and stroke conditions across Scotland live their lives to the full.

Carole Edmonds, regional retail Manager, said: “We are delighted to be reopening our doors again and the team are really looking forward to welcoming back our customers.

“We’re desperately looking for volunteers to help keep the store running and we’re urging people in the local community to spare a few hours a week in the shop.

“They are vital in helping us run our shops and in raising funds.

“Lots of us are looking forward to getting back out and seeing our local high streets busy and bustling again.

"By joining our friendly team, you’ll be helping to save your local store as our community gets back on its feet after lockdown.”

She added: “The safety of our staff, volunteers and customers is a priority and the measures that we put in place in the summer are still running in the shop.

“ All stock is quarantined for 72 hours, and there is a limit to the number of people allowed at any time.”

The shop is accepting donations from the 26th April. - people are asked to call Kirkcaldy on (01592) 269305 or Leven on (01333) 425319 to arrange a drop-off time.”
