Fife Debenhams store to close as retailer reveals likely timeline
Fife’s Debenhams branch in Dunfermline is to close for good, the retailer has confirmed.
The Kingsgate Centre store – currently closed due to coronavirus restrictions – will shut its doors to customers “permanently” once all of its stocked has been cleared.
Debenhams went into administration for a second time last April and its hopes of survival rested on sole bidder JD Sports, which pulled out in late 2020.
Administrators began a wind-down of its UK operation and the chain remained open for in-store and online trading prior to January’s coronavirus lockdown.

It was stated at the conclusion of this process, if no alternative offers had been received, all UK operations – including Dunfermline – would close.
The firm has now provided details of a timeline for the closure of all of its stores.
A Debenhams spokeswoman said: “Stores will reopen once lockdown ends to complete the stock clearance – anticipated to take four to six weeks – and then close permanently.”
