Kerry Photography has been operating from its new base in the town for the past few weeks, based next to the new Lang Toun Cycles shop, opposite the indoor market.

It is owned by Kerry Hogge who is coming up to her tenth year in business, having previously been located at a studio in Dysart.

Kerry runs the business and has had her daughter Courtney Anderson - who won young business woman of the year last year - working alongside her for the past five years.

She has always had a passion for photography.

Kerry said: “I decided I wanted to make a career of it in 2008 when I started a four-year course in photography at Carnegie College.

"One of the most memorable times was being chosen as student photographer of the year – this made me realise I could turn my passion into my job.

"We decided to move into the High Street as we’ve been looking for an ideal property to expand for over a year, but finding something that ticked all the right boxes was difficult.

"This studio is at least four times bigger than my previous one – it is across two floors and has the High Street traffic that we were after.”

The business specialises in newborn and child photography, but also does pets, school/nursery portraits, maternity and family.

And it offers free shoots for children with life limiting conditions.

Added Kerry: “We are also setting up a new independent studio space upstairs for fellow videographers and photographers to rent for their own commercial work. It will also be available for pop up creative events and groups.

"We are also hoping to do some pop up events to raise money for Sands, which supports parents through stillbirth and neonatal death, too.”

She said her business, like so many, was impacted by the pandemic, but it is looking ahead.

Kerry said: “We want to be part of bringing business back to the town centre.

“Shops that have been empty for years now have new businesses operating in them, and there’s a real energy about the town again. I haven’t seen it this busy in years!”
