The couple who run Los Buenos Amigos in the town's Victoria Road have set up a trailer to carry tapas boxes and Spanish food to customers across the Kingdom who are unable to visit their shop.

Having opened their takeaway business, on July 25 last year during lockdown, owner Alicia Aparicio said the idea came after speaking to her husband about finding a way to take their Spanish cuisine to places where they were unable to make home deliveries.

“We decided to open The Wee Tapas Box after having many people asking when we could open a takeaway of Los Buenos Amigos near them - since we could not make home deliveries because of the distance.

"The idea came from one day talking with my husband. We decided that the best thing was to take Los Buenos Amigos in a small box and go to all the places where we could not make home deliveries and this way to be able to evaluate where could be a good to open another takeaway shop in the future.

“Our plan is to go to local markets in Fife and at the same time be able to go to places like Dundee, Perth in private parking of hotels or shopping areas.”

She continued: “The takeaway is still open to the public for all our regular customers and for all those new customers who want to try more variety than I carry in The Wee Tapas Box. My husband is in charge of the shop – he is my partner in the business and in the kitchen I have a Spanish chef and a kitchen assistant to whom I have taught my recipes very well.”

Alicia said she has plans for her new venture once restrictions are lifted: “Once we get out of lockdown we are definitely going to take "The Wee Tapas Box" out of Fife so that all those who ask us for food can have it closer to hand. One of the places most desired by people who write to us is Dundee.”

Her food, which includes churros with hot chocolate; fchorizo burgers with homemade potatoes, patatas bravas and croquettes, proved to be very popular with Fifers during the first weekend of her new venture.

She said: “Last weekend was our first weekend launching The Wee Tapas Box and it was absolutely incredible.

"A lot of people came - first we were in Kirkcaldy High Street on Friday at the Artisan Market, on Saturday we were in Cairneyhill and on Sunday we were outside Canmore House, Dunfermline. The three days we were sold out. It was amazing.”

She added: “I am looking forward to seeing how The Wee Tapas Box evolves. I am a very entrepreneurial person and when we leave lockdown, I will continue with my wee tapas box and bring many more surprises, new things never seen.”
