News of its demise was confirmed at the start of December, with the doors closing for good at the weekend - making it the latest familiar name to depart the town centre.

WHSmith has been on the High Street since the late 1990s after it took over rivals, John Menzies.

It used to have record and book departments on the upper floor along with stationery, but in recent years it has only operated from its ground floor.
