Speaking in the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, the First Minister said the Scottish Government is currently preparing a revised strategic framework, which will set out in more detail when and how we might gradually emerge from lockdown, next week.

She said the framework will set out as far as possible the conditions that need to be met, in terms of the data, for Scotland to start lifting restrictions.

His comments come after the regional chambers of commerce issued a statement asking the Scottish Government for a roadmap out of the restrictions.

The statement, from Keith Barbour, joint chief executive at Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber, Liz Mcareavey, chief executive at Edinburgh Chamber, Emily McGowan, interim chief executive officer at Scottish Borders Chamber, Brenda Cumming, chamber manager at West Lothian Chamber and Mr Mitchell, said while they agree controlling spread of the virus is vital, clear thinking and messaging from the Government on how and when we will emerge from lockdown and start rebuilding our economy is needed.

He said: “We are pleased that the First Minister hopes to issue a revised Strategic Framework next week setting out the order in which different sectors of the economy will re-open and the conditions that will need to be met to allow it. This is what Fife Chamber and its partners in the Scottish Chambers of Commerce network have been strongly advocating for some time now.

"This will hopefully contain sufficient information to allow businesses to look ahead with optimism and try to plan for growth rather than live with fear and uncertainty and simply try to survive and hope that they are lucky enough to benefit from the next Government financial support package that is announced.”
