Overall, the college saw a near 12% increase in the number of students achieving good results - and that comes against a backdrop of disruption caused by the coronavirus lockdown.

Classroom studies were halted in March and moved online as campuses across the region closed their doors.

Dorothee Leslie, vice principal, paid tribute to the students.

She said: “This increase in pass rates is a reflection on the incredible work being done at the college by these students and their teachers.

“I’m especially impressed by the way everyone has dealt with the challenges that have been thrown at them in the current circumstances.

“Everyone at the college has dealt with the situation admirably, and these results are a just reward for their efforts over the past year.

“We now look forward to building on these results and helping more students achieve the results they need to progress to positive destinations."

The results came as the college added five new faces to the board of governors ahead of the start of the 2020/21 academic year.

They bring a wealth of experience from a variety of sectors including academia, business and local government, and will help influence and shape the college’s strategy, values and governance framework.

The new faces include Brian Fisher who has over 30 years’ experience within the financial sector.

Amanda Kindness works in the planning team at the University of St Andrews, is experienced in providing data analysis, while Evelyn McPhail was, until her recent retirement, the director of pharmacy and medicines for NHS Fife and the Fife Integrated Joint Board of the Health and Social Care Partnership .

They are joined by Gordon Mole, Fife Council’s head of business and employability, and Sarah Ferguson who was recently elected student president for education and representation for Fife College Students’ Association.
