Coronavirus: Burntisland Civic Week 2020 cancelled

Organisers of Burntisland Civic Week have cancelled this year’s event due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, Libby Donovan, chairman of the Burntisland Civic Week committee, said in light of the current health crisis and taking account of the Scottish Government’s advice on mass gatherings, the members have taken the difficult decision to call off this year’s event.

She said: “I am very sorry to announce that Civic Week will not go ahead this year.

“This includes the selection of the Royal Party. Months of planning is required to hold these events and with the uncertainty we feel it’s the correct thing to do to protect our volunteers and the local community.

“I hope you understand why we’ve take this decision. Our committee looks forward to seeing you again for next year’s Civic Week, which will take place between Friday 18 and Sunday, June 27 2021.

“Parade Day will be Saturday June 19, 2021 with the theme “Festival of the Sea” carrying over and as ever I hope everyone will raid those dressing up boxes to ensure there is a colourful display of costumes.”

She added: “Please continue to follow advice from the Government and look out for each other.”
