Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister, said the numbers didn’t give the full picture of the impact of the virus across society.

She said: “As of 9:00 am this morning there were a total of 266 cases, an increase of 39 from yesterday.

She said this was an “under-estimate” of the true prevalence of infections across Scotland.

The virus has led top the closure of schools, theatres, museums, sports centres, and libraries, and resulted in many people working from home in a bid to limit the spread of the infection.

The Links Market has already been cancelled for the first time in living memory, while all sport has effectively been scrapped for the foreseeable future.
