A booklet produced by Kirkcaldy Civic Society sheds some fascinating light on their stories. We dipped into it for this second gallery of photos to give a snapshot of the streets where you live.
And if you missed our first round up, here’s the link:
Gourlay Street:
Bailie John Gourlay was a well known Kirkcaldy public figure.
A pattern maker to trade, he became Clerk of Works.
For 34 years he was a member of the School Board and became a Burgess of the Burgh in 1887. Photo: na
Doctor’s Row:
The houses in this small street, just past the ice rink at the top of Rosslyn Street, were built for Dr Hastie about 1865.
He actually stayed in a house which is better known as the HQ of Kingsway Entertainments just a few yards away. Photo: na
David Street:
The street in the town centre was named after David Storrar, a local chemist.
He was one of four men to whom William Beveridge of Whytehouse feud land in this area.
Although David Street forms one continuous road with Swan Road, there used to be a wall between them. Photo: na
