Fife's greatest gigs: No. 1 - The Beatles, Kirkcaldy
Even nearly 55 years later it still seems hard to comprehend.
The most famous, talked-about and undoubtedly influential band of all time played in Kirkcaldy.

Hide AdIt was October 9, 1963 when The Beatles took to the stage at the Carlton Cinema in Park Road.
Beatlemania was now well underway, the band’s third number one single ‘She Loves You’ had just been displaced from the top of the charts but debut album ‘Please Please Me’ was still the nation’s number one.
The Fab Four played two sets at the Carlton that day – the 167th date of an astonishing 220 shows they would play that year.
On the bill with them were Andy Ross and His Orchestra, The Fortunes and Houston Wells and The Marksmen and among the songs played were some as-yet-unheard tracks that would appear on their second album ‘With The Beatles’ which was released the following month.
Kirkcaldy and the rest of the UK were conquered, the rest of the world would soon follow.
