The Procurator Fiscal Depute told the court: “The witness was driving a work vehicle at the scene and the accused was standing on the pavement. The witness stopped the van and the accused started to complain about his driving.

"He became aggressive. The witness drove away from the accused and told his supervisor. The police were contacted.”

The court was told then the witness returned, McEwan appeared and he was looking for a fight. He told him: ‘That windscreen is going in’.

McEwan’s defence agent told the court: “At the time he had been drinking for the first time in a long time.

"He was annoyed because the driver had gone through a mini roundabout he had paid scant regard to. This was the route he takes his son to school and he reacted entirely inappropriately.

He continued: “This is the first time he has drunk alcohol in the past six years. He has no fines outstanding and I hope the court can deal with this by way of a financial penalty.”

Sheriff McCulloch told the accused: “I thank you for accepting your responsibility in this matter. I will take this as a blip and fine you £350.”
