Woman drove dangerously and at excessive speed on Kirkcaldy roads

Suzanne Forrester admitted driving dangerously at excess speeds on Hogmanay last year on roads in the town without insurance.

Forrester, 34, of Loch Leven Terrace, Kelty, appeared before Sheriff Grant McCulloch at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

She admitted that on December 31, 2019 on Kirk Wynd, High Street, The Path, St Clair Street, Rosslyn Street, all Kirkcaldy, that she drove a car dangerously in excess of the speed limits for the road and weather conditions.

Forrester also admitted repeatedly driving in the opposing lane causing the driver of an oncoming vehicle to take evasive action to avoid a collision and fail to manage proper control of the car.

She further admitted on the same date, on the same roads, she drove a car without insurance.

The Procurator Fiscal Depute told the court: “Police officers drove up to the car but as an officer approached the driver’s door, she drove off.

“They followed her with their blue lights and siren on. She was driving at excessive speed down the High Street and she went down the wrong side of the road.

"She made another driver take action to avoid a collision and continued driving at speed. The vehicle and the accused were traced by police.”

Forrester’s defence agent said: “She accepts her responsibility and puts the incident down to her low mood and suicidal feelings at the time. She accepts that her driving could have had serious consequences.

"She is in a better place today and she describes it as the worst mistake of her life.”

Sheriff McCulloch fined her £300 and disqualified her from driving for 18 months.
