Fife Weather: Red alert ends but there's more to come

The Red Warning for Snow has now expired as of 10am, but those hoping the situation will improve will be disappointed.

While most transport, education, and council facilities are closed today, an Amber Warning will continue until at least 6pm tonight, with a further Yellow Warning in place till Sunday.

This means there is still significant risk to those venuting out.

All trains through Kirkcaldy have been cancelled until at least 12.25pm, though it is hoped that some services may be reinstated but this has yet to be confirmed. For more info check www.journeycheck.com/scotrail

However, Stagecoach says it is unlikely that any bus services will run today.

NHS Fife says all outpatient appointments are cancelled for today, along with all Planned Elective Surgery, unless you are contacted directly.

In a statement, the NHS added: “Every effort is being made to continue with a small programme of Elective Surgery tomorrow.

The list of closures is already lengthy:

• All schools will be shut on Thursday.

• Fife College has closed all campuses.

• Fife Cultural Trust has closed all its libraries, theatres and museums.
• Fife sports and Leisure Trust has closed all its facilities.

• All recycling centres are closed.

• Maggie’s Fife cancer care centre is closed today.

In a statement, Stagecoach said: “In consultation with Police Scotland, Transport Scotland and similar to other transport operators, no services are operating across Fife at present and it is highly unlikely this situation will change for the remainder of the day as conditions remain the same, or are deteriorating in some areas of Fife.

“We will continue to review the weather and road conditions and post any updates to our position on this page throughout the day.”

Non-essential appointments and visits are likely to be cancelled.Residents are asked to go online to check for advice and ask questions – and ONLY call a council number if absolutely necessary, to make sure the most vulnerable people and those in emergency situations can get through.

Meals on wheels managed to reach all clients yesterday and will endeavour to do the same today.

The Bob Dylan Band have been forced to cancel their Lochgelly Theatre gig on Saturday, but they are also set to play the Adam Smith Theatre on Saturday, July 14
