Brian Allan set up the fundraiser to raise money for the ward after his wife, Carla, went through four difficult pregnancies, with hospital staff saving her life on several occasions.

As Brian gets ready to complete the gruelling four marathon challenge, he is urging people to donate in the raffle which will see him finish the last few miles dressed in a costume of the raffle winner’s choice.

He said: “My wife Carla and my brother Rab came up with the idea for me to finish the challenge in fancy dress.

"There are 20 different costumes for people who enter the raffle to choose from – I just hope it is one that I can see out of as some have quite large heads!.

"Obviously my mates are hoping that I run dressed as a female character so they can have a good laugh at my expense.”

As well as finishing the challenge in fancy dress, Brian has added an extra half marathon to the challenge in order to raise as much cash as possible.

"I have raised just over £3000, but with the raffle and the extra event, I’m hoping to get it over £3500 for the maternity ward at the Vic.

"If the cash I raise is able to help people I will be more than happy - the staff are great. They really take the time to to take care of families. Without them I don’t know where we would be.

"They make you feel like you are part of their family to help put you at ease during not only tough times, but also exciting times.”
