Fife memorial service to honour and remember organ donors who gave gift of life

A special service is taking place in Kirkcaldy to remember and honour Fifers whose organs gave the gift of life to others.

NHS Fife’s annual organ and tissue donation memorial event takes place at the Old Kirk on May 13, and is open to anyone who has been touched by organ and tissue donation, including family members and friends of donors, as well as people who have received an organ or tissue transplant.

The service brings together donor families, recipients, NHS staff and members of the public to reflect, share memories and offer thanks for the generosity that has transformed so many lives. It also provides a quiet and reflective space to come together, remember loved ones, and recognise the profound impact organ and tissue donation can have on individuals, families and communities.

Nicola Robertson, director of nursing, and chair of NHS Fife’s Organ and Tissue Donation Committee, said: “Our memorial service is an opportunity for us to come together to remember and honour the incredible generosity of organ and tissue donors, and the families who supported that decision at the most difficult of times.

“It is important to recognise the lives that have been saved and improved through donation, and the lasting impact it has on recipients and their loved ones. We are inviting the local community to join us and provide a meaningful and supportive space for everyone who has been touched by organ and tissue donation.”
