Billy (22) has a burgeoning following nationally, internationally and on social media and this led him to an opportunity to perform on popular BBC1 Television Show Little Mix The Search.

The girl group members were blown away by Billy’s own song, The Old Fashioned Way, which he wrote in memory of his grandfather, Jim.

It struck a huge chord with all of the girls – and they were smitten by Billy’s cheeky Scottish charm and humility.

He said: “The experience on the show with Little Mix was amazing. The girls could not have been nicer.

"I couldn’t believe the compliments they gave me. Everybody on the show was extremely talented, but the reason I didn’t continue on in the competition to be part of the final band is because they felt I was a better solo artist.

"But it was a great opportunity to showcase my music and the amazing response I got was confirmation that I need to just keep on doing what I am doing. A lot of opportunities are coming my way as a result of it.”

Billy has been working on new material including his new single which is being released on Saturday.

He said: “I started writing my own songs 18 months ago and I am working towards creating an album. I have a new song coming out this weekend - ‘She’ was the first song I ever wrote.

"This one is really close to my heart and I have been waiting for the right time to put it out. I think it is the right time now.

"’It is about past experiences and past relationships. There has been a good response to the music I have been putting out on social media so far - people are excited about it so I am looking forward to seeing the reaction to my new single.”

Billy has also recorded a video to go with the song which was recorded in Kirkcaldy and he hopes to release it on the same day.

“We did a lot of footage on the Prom, the beach at Pathhead and Kirkcaldy High Street,” he said. "These are sentimental spots that tie in with the song and relationships I have had while I have been here.”

He added: “The whole experience with Little Mix has been so surreal, it has felt like a dream and I don’t want it to end.

"I just want to build on that now and get people on board to support me and my music.”
