Kirsty and Tony Strachan, formerly of Kangus Coffee House in Kirkcaldy, now run a mobile vegan coffee shop with Kangus Caravangus, and they are hosting a Christmas fundraiser for a Scottish healthcare charity which brings smiles to children and young people with additional needs.

For the past two years the couple had held the Kangus Bazaar, a Christmas vegan market in the Old Kirk, featuring local stalls including handmade festive gifts, a pop up bar and vegan goodies which raised money for Frontline Fife, RSPB and Animal Sanctuary Scotland.

Due to the pandemic, this year’s event can’t go ahead. Instead, they are hosting a Kangus Bazaar for one lucky family where they will hold a personalised Christmas Festival in their garden or outdoor space which follows government guidelines.

All locals have to do to be in with a chance of winning is to make a donation to the couple’s Virgin Money Giving page and the lucky winner will be chosen at random.

All the money raised will go to Hearts and Minds, an arts and health charity that uses the art of therapeutic clowning to bring smiles, joy and laughter to children and young people in hospitals, hospices and special educational schools as well as adults living with dementia.

As a result of Covid-19, the therapeutic clowning sessions have been delivered virtually into the homes of people who have had to completely isolate.

Hearts and Minds have been working with families across Fife with The Yard, Nourish and CHAS.

Kirsty said: “This year we had to think outside the box. We thought the best way to raise money would be to offer a Christmas bazaar where you are.

“It will go to one lucky family from all the people who donate to Hearts and Minds charity.

"The Kangus Christmas Bazaar where you are will be a small Christmas concert in your garden with seasonal food and drink, party games, dancing, Christmas presents and maybe even a visit from the big man himself! It will all be socially distanced.”

The draw will be made on Saturday, December 12 and the bazaar will take place on Sunday, December 20 at 3.30pm.

Added Kirsty: “We chose Hearts and Minds because the work it does is beautiful and essential.

"Now more than ever, at a time when people are unable to visit their loved ones as readily as they once could, the Clown Doctors and Elderflowers are a virtual lifeline of joy and happiness.”

Rebecca Simpson, CEO of Hearts and Minds, said: “I am delighted that Kirsty and Tony have chosen us as their charity.”And she added: "It is amazing that they have thought of an ingenious way to keep the spirit of the event alive and help Hearts and Minds too. Any money raised will go towards the delivery of the Clowndoctor and Elderflower programmes.”
