The new project at the centre will be focusing on a series of local history podcasts and is urging any budding broadcasters to come and join the ranks.

As well as podcasts, the centre will be making and editing its own films, and showcasing images from photographers.

The project also offers the opportunity for anyone that would like to produce their own podcast or film on the subject of their choice the chance to do so.

Michael McLaren, who works at Linton Lane and has a background in radio production is spearheading the project said: “Our new program this year is the Community Media Project, which will include all sorts of different forms of digital media.

“This is what I love doing, I really enjoy all aspects of media, especially podcasts.

“I thought instead of making it just podcasting, because not everyone would want to do that, and some people might not even now what podcasting is, we could branch the project out and do some film making and photography with a dedicated section on our media page online for people to showcase their pictures.

“We have already had some people submitting pictures to our media page and they are really good and high quality, but it doesn’t have to be professional quality, it can be absolutely anything.

“There is somebody interested in making a series of podcasts that focuses on the history of institutions that were in Kirkcaldy but are now no longer here.”

Michael goes on to explain that as the project has just started, the Linton Lane Centre is looking for people to fill specific roles in the media project.

“We are looking for people to come and help with the researching of topics for the podcasts and people who would like to do some presenting, even if someone has an interest in journalism we want them to come along and join the project.

“We are starting with local history, but if we get a lot of interest we can do a podcast directory and branch out into other genres like music, book reviews, culture, film reviews or drama.

“At the Linton Lane Centre we have all the relevant equipment, so we can record, we can edit and help with online hosting. If someone wanted to set up their own podcast we could show them how to do this.

“Someone asked me if they had made a drama podcast would it have to be local content and I had told them that it could be set in outer space, it’s not about the content it’s about the creator.

“So if anyone is interested in doing some digital media and wants to do something creative we want them to come along to the centre.”

Mandy Henderson, centre manager, is excited about the possibilities of the new project at Linton Lane, she said: “This is a brilliant addition to the programs that we offer here at the centre, we want to offer something for everyone here at Linton Lane.

“There are a lot of people out there that do not know the full extent of what we offer here at the community centre, and we want to reach these people.

“Going into 2020 we want to keep moving forward and do something different for the people in the community.
