The group will tackle some of Scotland’s most unforgiving terrain.

Three men from Kirkcaldy are to walk the Affric Kintail Way in Scotland’s Highlands to raise money for two charities in the town.

Tony Grubb, Ally Caldicott and Kevin Henderson hope to raise £2000 for Nourish Family Support Centre and Kirkcaldy Foodbank by tackling the 44 mile route in three days at the start of October.

Starting at Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness and finishing at Morvich in Kintail by Loch Duich, the trio will brave some of the harshest weather that Scotland has to offer.

The route, which is recommended for experienced walkers, is normally covered in five days, but they have set themselves a target to do it in just three.

Tony masterminded the plan to raise the cash, and recruited the help of his two friends to accompany him on the trek.

He said: “I have done a few bits and bobs of fundraising for Kirkcaldy Foodbank over the years, and as Nourish is close to Ally’s heart, we decided to partner up and raise cash for both.

"We get involved with community projects like litter picks and other things, with the hope that kids will see what we are doing, and it may inspire them to do good deeds themselves – we try to be positive role models.

"I always seem to find the daftest ways to raise money for charities. The walk is over 70 kilometres and is notorious for bad weather - but it only adds to the excitement for me.”

Ally is no stranger to pushing himself to the limit for charity. He raised over £1000 for Nourish last year at Kirkcaldy’s Half Marathon.

He said: “I am not much of a hill walker but I have been training in the lead up to the Affric Kintail Way walk.

"We will be averaging about 15 miles per day. It doesn’t seem like a lot but the walk is over some challenging terrain.

"The walk is recommended to be done over five days, but we want to complete it in three, we really want to smash it and put our bodies to the test.”
