Fife Council’s community development team in the Kirkcaldy area launched a new way of working this month as it moved online to continue to provide much needed support during the pandemic.

Traditionally, the team was out and about in the community delivering youth work, family learning, supporting community groups and adult learning programmes.

Now, with restrictions still in place, it has gone virtual.

Aileen Morris, acting community development team manager, said: “Throughout the pandemic the team has been busy delivering new services to keep our communities connected.

“This work has included supporting people to access food or clothes who may be shielding or isolating, telephone support, supporting Kirkcaldy Foodbank, and helping people access technology to get online.

“It has also enabled families to stay active and get outdoors, delivering youth work in schools and helped people with welfare support.”

She added: “Although the pandemic has presented new challenges, it has also provided many new exciting opportunities in the way it delivers its services.”

Moving online is the best way to continue to engage and support people in the area involved with community learning.

It has a new presence across social media channels including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter, plus a new ‘Passport to Wellbeing’ programme for adult learners to build knowledge, skills and tools to improve their wellbeing.

Added Aileen: “The Meet the Team feature on the Our Kirkcaldy Facebook gives people a chance to get to know what community learning and development can offer and the wide range of opportunities for people to get involved.”
