Naked Neds: Kirkcaldy theatre comedy-drama on grief and illness takes centre stage
A powerful new comedy-drama is making its way to Kirkcaldy’s Adam Smith Theatre this week, and is set to tackle subjects that men often find difficult to discuss.
The Naked Neds follows a tight-knit group of Glasgow pals coming to terms and struggling to discuss the suicide of their best friend. An intimate discovery following a charity event changes their lives forever.
Determined to honour his memory, the likeable lads take on a series of increasingly chaotic fundraising challenges but when one of them discovers a lump on his testicle, their mortality is thrown into sharp focus.
Combining laugh-out-loud humour with emotional honesty, along with sharp writing, authentic Scottish banter and heartfelt performances, The Naked Neds explores friendship, grief and the importance of looking after both your physical and mental wellbeing.
The performance and production culminates in a riotous Full Monty-style performance that celebrates courage, camaraderie and vulnerability.
Already earning audience praise, the show is described as ‘one of the most powerful and unexpectedly funny shows I’ve seen in a long time’ and ‘a play that walks a tightrope between humour and heartbreak and never misses a step’.
Karen Taylor, OnFife’s community events and programme manager, said: “The Naked Neds is a unique piece of theatre that combines humour with important conversations about health, wellbeing and friendship. It’s entertaining, thought-provoking but ultimately uplifting, offering audiences plenty of laughs alongside a powerful message.”
The Naked Neds comes to the Adam Smith Theatre on Friday, September 18. Tickets are available from www.onfife.com or at the box office.
