Town Hall donation after centenary celebrations of Kate Kennedy Club
Enterprising students at the University of St Andrews have helped equip their local town hall with new furniture following centenary celebrations.
Members of the Kate Kennedy Club, one of the University’s oldest student societies, celebrated its 100th anniversary last month with a bumper Spring procession in the town. The club hired the Town Hall for four days of community celebrations, using it as a hub to welcome back over 250 alumni of the university, as well as to house an exhibition of procession-related memorabilia stretching back to the late 19th century, which was visited by hundreds of people.
Now, the Kate Kennedy Club has donated sofas, coffee tables, lamps and other furniture for use in the Town Hall. In addition, display cases that were used in the exhibition, which originally came from a leading London Museum, have been donated to the Fife Council’s community use team and are now being used in halls across Fife to display local artefacts.
Will Press, club president, said, “We were delighted to use St Andrews Town Hall as the centrepiece of our community celebrations during our recent centenary and wanted to say a huge thank you to the Fife Council team which worked so hard to make our events a great success.

“The Town Hall has always played a special role in the history of the Kate Kennedy Procession, with the old Town Council traditionally hosting a civic reception for Kate on the day of the event, so using it for our 100th was a homecoming of sorts.
“Since 1926, the club has been focused on supporting Fife charities, promoting town-gown relations and maintaining the history of the university. As a small token of our thanks, we're pleased to donate some of the furniture we used in our hub to the community use team so that it can be used in St Andrews Town Hall and in other locations throughout Fife.”
Louise Ness, lead officer for community use, said: “We were delighted to work with the Kate Kennedy Club during its centenary celebrations, which brought such energy, history, and community spirit into St Andrews Town Hall. This generous donation will make a real difference to the spaces we manage, helping them feel more welcoming and flexible for the many local groups and visitors who use them.”
