Tributes paid to Fife father and daughter who died within days of each other

Brian Christie – a member of the Freuchie Cricket Club team who lifted the National Village Cup at Lord’s in 1985 – and his daughter, Elaine, were well known in the area.

Brian, along with dad Dave, were part of the Freuchie Cricket Club side who became the first team from Scotland to lift the trophy.

The club paid tribute to Brian, posting: “Words can’t really describe the shock to all that knew these great people.

“To those who played with him and against him know that he will be remembered for his huge late swinging deliveries that bamboozled many a batsman especially the English in the village cup and on his day was unplayable.

“Always up for a laugh his usual on a game day was to bring out the cold hose and dowse the young team in the shower after the game!

“After playing in the 1XI for many a year he then became the 2nd XI captain and will be remembered for creating a great environment for bringing on many a youngster,encouraging them all the way and not afraid to let them know when they were not pulling their weight!

“He was a proper team man and everyone will miss him. Our thoughts are with Aileen, Graeme, Dave and Linda and all the rest of the family at this difficult time.”

Auchtermuchty Bellvue AFC also paid tribute to Brian, describing him as a “massive part of our club”.

They posted: “The Bellvue family is all the poorer after his passing and we send all our love and deepest condolences to Aileen, Graeme and family.”
