Remembrance Sunday: crowds fall silent at ceremonies across Fife

Communities across Fife have paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Remembrance Sunday events were held in towns and villages across the region, with all falling silent at 11:00am.

One of the biggest gatherings was at Kirkcaldy War Memorial where a huge crowd joined dignitaries, representatives of the armed services and many community groups.

Organised by the Kirkcaldy branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS), it began with a parade from the Town Square, led by Kirkcaldy Pipe Band, which made its way to the War Memorial gardens.

The ceremony was the first to feature the newly launched Garden of Remembrance, launched with Poppyscotland.

In the gardens a number of metal figurines of soldiers have been placed to form a guard of honour. Groups laying wreaths were called forward by Kirkcaldy photographer Cath Ruane, and writer Lisa May Young - booth trustees of the Kirkcaldy branch of the RBLS - who have collaborated on a new exhibition, Veterans: Here And Now, at 1 Adam Smith Close, headquarters of the Adam Smith Global Foundation.

Captain Andrew Manley, of Kirkcaldy Salvation Army, led with a prayer and a reading.

A huge number of community groups laid wreaths, including both Raith Rovers and Fife Flyers, with the entire Flyers team attending, led by coach Tim Wallace and chief executive, John Brown.

> Veterans exhibition

A brand new exhibition which spotlights people who have served, and tells their stories, opens in Kirkcaldy this week.

Veterans Here And Now is the work of Kirkcaldy photographer, Cath Ruane, and writer and author, Lisa May Young, and it takes place at the Adam Smith Global Foundation.

They have spent months profiling local veterans to tell their stories in words and images - they formed part of the legion’s display at Kirkcaldy Galleries.

They have now come together for the first time in this new exhibition which also features Cath’s photography from recent Remembrance Sunday gatherings.

It runs until December 4 at the foundation’s premises at 1 Adam Smith Close
