£10,000 boost to help Fife foodbank transform kitchen facilities
A Fife foodbank is set to transform its kitchen facilities thanks to a £10,050 grant.
The money for Glenrothes & District Foodbank has come from the Asda Foundation.
It was selected as one of 73 organisations across the UK to receive funding through the foundation’s Local Community Spaces programme which supports projects that create safe, accessible and welcoming spaces where people can come together and access support.
Run by a team of volunteers, the foodbank provides emergency food support to people across Glenrothes and surrounding towns and villages, distributing more than 3000 food parcels each year.

The grant will fund a new kitchen, including replacement units, new appliances and flooring, alongside installation costs. The improvements will create a more practical, fit-for-purpose space for food preparation, storage and cooking, as well as helping the team make the most of donated fresh produces and providing healthier meals to local people.
Mhari Davidson, assistant manager at the foodbank, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the Asda Foundation for this generous funding. Our kitchen is a vital part of the support we provide, and these improvements will make a real difference to our volunteers and the people who rely on us.”
The funding forms part of the Asda Foundation's final year of investment through its five-year commitment to improving community spaces across the UK. Since 2022, the Foundation has invested more than £5 million in projects.
Colleagues from Asda Glenrothes recently visited the foodbank to present the £10,050 cheque. Colin Gourlay, Asda Glenrothes customer manager said: “Glenrothes & District Foodbank provides essential support to local people across the area and we’re delighted that the Asda Foundation’s local community spaces fund is helping the team with well needed and deserved upgrades to its kitchen.
“We know what a difference having a welcoming, practical community space can make to the people who use them, and we hope this funding will help the foodbank continue its fantastic work across Glenrothes and the surrounding area.”
