Award-winning Fife venue set to add more bedrooms weeks after AA recognition

A Fife country pub and restaurant, which won a top accolade at the recent annual AA Bed and Breakfast Awards, is set to add more bedrooms.

The Boars Head in Auchtermuchty has secured planning permission from Fife Council to carry out internal and external alterations to hotel which will see it have eight en suite bedrooms. The work also includes the installation of replacement windows and doors, replacement roof tiles, and repair and repainting.

The application, from Skanus Hospitality, was rubber-stamped by the local authority this week.

The operators want to replace the higher levels, currently, residential accommodation to the owners of the High Street-facing building with four nsuite bedrooms to form the hotel part of the business

The building at 23 High Street has a lengthy history. It is believed it was first built in the early 19th century and is understood to date from the historic expansion of the town during the 18th or 19th century.

The south-facing facade forms the entrance of the early 19th-century public house..

Last month the Boards Head - which currently has four bedrooms - was named AA Restaurant with Rooms of the Year Scotland 2026. The award follows the venue’s recent AA inspection, where it was awarded a 4-star rating and recognised in the ‘restaurant with rooms’ category.

The boutique rooms opened in 2025, and the Fife business will now go forward to compete for the overall UK title held in London in September.
