Funding for future of Fife church
Plans to transform St Monans Auld Kirk Enterprise (SMAKE) into a thriving community hub have taken a major step forward after members of the North East Fife Area Committee approved a £20,000 funding award from the St Monans Common Good Fund.
The funding will help support essential repair and improvement works at the historic building and play a key role in unlocking a provisional £1.8 million award from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which is dependent on additional match funding being secured.
The project aims to restore and improve the community-owned kirk, helping to secure its future as a welcoming and accessible space for local people and visitors.

Planned works include repairs to the historic building, improved accessibility, new public toilets and energy efficiency upgrades.
Once completed, the Auld Kirk will be equipped to host a wide range of community activities, including events, meetings, ceremonies and concerts, while also providing facilities for residents and visitors to the town.
Councillor Jonny Tepp, Convener of the North East Fife Area Committee, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for St Monans. The Auld Kirk is an important part of the village's history and identity, and this investment will help preserve the building while creating a valuable community space for local people.”
“By approving this funding, we're helping to unlock significant external investment that will benefit the area for many years to come.
“The project will create a more accessible and sustainable building that can support community events, activities and visitors, ensuring the Auld Kirk remains at the heart of village life.”
The overall project is valued at £2.44 million, with funding already secured from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic Environment Scotland.
The contribution from the St Monans Common Good Fund will help bring the project a step closer to becoming a reality and ensure this important local landmark continues to serve the community for generations to come.
