A fly-tipping eyesore is set to be removed from the landscape.

Fife Council has approved plans to transform vacant land dubbed 'the Mitchelston Midden' into a new storage facility.

The site was once home to Production Glassfibre, but the empty land has been turned into a horrendous dump as fly-tippers have abandoned their rubbish on an industrial scale.

In summer, neighbouring businesses called for action and a major clear-up after security fences were torn down, leaving the land wide open to abuse.

New owners, North Star Storage, have been given the go-ahead to develop the land.

The clean-up has already started with heavy machinery expected to be on site to remove the huge piles of debris.

The new storage facility is expected to be up and running next month.

Tim Reid, director of North Star Storage said the development will be “a considerable benefit for the locals in the area and the environment generally.”

He added: “We received planning permission at the end of last week and have started to clean up the mess.

“We are delighted that we can remove this eyesore which has been a blight on the area for some time.

“We are, however, more excited that our new self storage site should be up and running next month”

The site will have two accesses from Myregormie Road .

The fence surrounding it will be 2.4 metres high with a green coloured galvanised steel wire mesh finish.

The approved is subject to conditions including the installation of five parking spaces.

Neighbours were consulted, and no objections received.
