Planners’ verdict on bid to turn Kirkcaldy corner shop into flats

A convenience store in Kirkcaldy is set to be turned into flats after a planning application was given the go-ahead.

Permission has been granted to change the use of a retail unit on Forth Avenue into two flats.

The proposals will also see external alternations carried out including the installation of new windows and doors and access ramps.

A report by Fife Council planners said a letter of representation had been submitted raising concerns about road and pedestrian safety implications.

It explained: “Specifically, concerns were raised that the proposal’s lack of off-street parking would exacerbate existing on-street parking pressures within the surrounding area.

“Overall, it is considered on balance that the proposed development would be acceptable in terms of transportation and road safety.”

Approving the application, planners added: “The immediate surrounding area is predominantly residential in nature. As such, it is considered that the proposed development would be in keeping with the surrounding area, and would not result in any significant detrimental impact with regard to noise.”
