Storm Austen & Storm Boelo: Fife weather warning issued as delays and disruption expected

Fife has been hit by a weather warning as two storms are set to sweep the country this weekend.

Friday will see Storm Austen bring heavy rain across the Central Belt, and it could be followed on Saturday by Storm Boelo.

ScotRail has already said a revised timetable will be in place on some routes after Network Rail implemented speed restrictions across parts of the railway - although the line from Kirkcaldy to Inverkething is already closed to allow for major work to be carried out, and many passengers are already using replacement buses.

While Friday morning has gone off to a quiet start, heavy rain may follow.

The Met Office said: “An area of heavy rain will develop across southern Scotland before dawn Friday in association with Storm Austen, extending over northeast Scotland during the morning and early afternoon.

“Accumulations of 20-40 mm are expected widely within the warning area through this period, with 60-80 mm possible in some locations, bringing flooding and travel disruption in a few places.

“The rain will turn lighter and clear from the west through the evening and overnight.”

It listed potential impacts including injuries and danger to life from flying debris, some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen, and possible power cuts.
