East Fife 0-0 Alloa

Given their current high standards, nobody at East Fife will be happy at only taking one point from any opponent in League One.

But sometimes a draw is a fair result and comes at the end of a 90 minutes when both sides were simply a match for each other.

This was one of those games.

East Fife are battling it out for a place in the end of season promotion play-offs and a win at the weekend would have drawn them to within two points of their visitors.

The slight point gap shows how well matched these two sides are, and so it proved at Bayview.

As far as goalless draws go this was by no means a drab encounter.

Both clubs have creative talents in their side and looked to cut the other open.

At one end Scott Robinson had an early glimpse of goal but his shot was nudged around the post by Neil Parry.

Greig Spence is one of the best forwards in the league and if you can keep him quiet you'll go a long way to shutting Alloa out.

East Fife did that, with a first half chance the former Raith striker fired over the bar his only real opportunity at goal.

Despite having a quiet game there was still some frustration in the Alloa support when he was taken off with just over 20 minutes to go which opened up a verbal exchange between some fans and manager Jim Goodwin.

But that was of no interest to the home side who stayed on the front foot in search of a winner.

It almost came with nearly the last attempt of the game when Jason Kerr's header was cleared off the line.

Boss Barry Smith said:

“The first half we played some good stuff and the second was a bit more even.

“It’s a good point and looking at it we’ve played the top two sides and taken four out of six.

“We have to be pleased with that."
