East Fife pick up another point as Dick Campbell hails good league start
Dick Campbell says his side can be delighted with a solid start to the Scottish League One campaign after last Saturday’s 0-0 draw away to Airdrieonians.
The Bayview team, who sit sixth on six points after five outings, have only lost once – bouncing back from that 2-1 defeat to Peterhead with successive bore draws against full-time opponents.
Having followed up the 0-0 draw against Hamilton Accies with another in North Lanarkshire last weekend, manager Campbell hailed his part-time players’ defensive showings with the team having only conceded two league goals.
“My goalkeeper hasn’t had a save to make,” Campbell told East Fife TV after the Airdrieonians shutout.

“And I know how difficult it is to come through to the Glasgow area, against a full-time team, and get something.
“You have to reward the back five/back six for that. It’s great to see no goals against again.
“We’ve got one of the best defensive records in the league, and I hope that I see us at the top of that table come the end of May.
“We are part-time. We’ve played last Tuesday night. I tried five or six players on Tuesday who didn’t work out.
“We’ve only lost one game really. We’ve started really well.”
Campbell did however admit that he is hoping to see his forward players’ fortunes in front of goal pick up after another league match without a goal for East Fife.
The Fifers scored two in a 5-2 KDM Evolution Trophy league-phase loss to St Mirren B last Tuesday – but the last three league matches have only brought one goal.
He added: “We did reasonably well. We shaded the first half and played better in the second half.
“I was a little bit annoyed with the second half in that we could have did better with our possession.
“I’m looking for guys like Cammy and Myles to get a goal but they need a break to go for them.
I’m sure the East Fife fans will go up the road happy with how we are battling for everything.”
The Fifers now face a tough test with relegated full-time side Ross County making the trip to Bayview this Saturday. A Tuesday night trip to Clyde then follows that outing.
