Raith Rovers forward George Oakley reveals his goals target for this season

Having scored a seasonal career high of 16 goals in 48 appearances for former club Ayr United across league and cups in the 2024-2025 campaign, George Oakley has proved he’s more than capable of netting regularly at William Hill Championship level.

And, with third-placed Rovers currently involved in a title fight at the top end of Scotland’s second tier, another Oakley goal glut would be most welcome as the Kirkcaldy side bid to improve on their 21-point haul by getting a positive result in their next league outing at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in a 3pm kick-off this Saturday.

The 30-year-old English forward told the Fife Free Press: “My goals target would be anything above 16, I guess. But I'm here to help in any way, whether that be with goals, assists, off the pitch matters, whatever it is.

"That's what I'm here to do and that's what I want to do. But, of course, on a personal note, yes, I want to score as many goals as I can.”

Oakley, who has netted three times in eight Raith outings this term, recently got back fit again as part of a strikeforce which has been hit with several injuries, which currently includes Anton Dowds, Dylan Easton, John Robertson and Lewis Vaughan.

He added: “It's been hard this season because obviously boys have been injured, some are in, some are out, sort of thing.

"It's been tough to get us all on the pitch at once. But you've got to look at when I was injured, Anton was scoring goals.

"I played with Anton at Ayr last season when we started together and I think before he got injured we got 14 goals between us. So we know that me and him can play together.

"You've also got Lewis Vaughan, who's been a great player in this league for years, scored goals. I’m looking forward to playing with him a bit more.

"There's loads of firepower, a lot of boys that are experienced and a lot of boys that can work well together. And I'm just looking forward to it.

"I think anyone that's watched this league, played in this league, knows that anything can happen. It's a very strange, tough league.

"We’ve just got to keep the candle burning the same. You don't want to be too high, too low. We just need to keep our heads down, work hard and see where it takes us. You never know what's around the corner.”
