There were very few goalmouth incidents in the first half with only a Ryan McInnes lob onto the top of the crossbar for United and a goal for Newtongange.

The goal came after 34 minutes when a rather dubious free kick was awarded to the home team.

Lee Currie’s free kick was headed goal wards by Kevin Motion, and the unfortunate Liam Rolland put the ball into his own net as he attempted to clear the danger.

The home team doubled their lead after 73 minutes when Morris crossed tosubstitute Jordan Cropley, who fired a shot past United keeper Darren Clarksonfrom a few yards.

United came close to reducing the leeway twice in as many minutes when firstGary Cherrie headed a Barry Sibanda header, from a Ryan McInnes corner, off the goal line, with keeper Keiron Renton beaten.

Jamie McNeish then crossed from the bye line to Ricky Patrick, who rifled a shot from 18 yards that hit the face of the cross bar.

Newtongrange made sure of the three points with 11 minutes left on the clock when they scored goal number three.

Craig Thomson fired in a free kick that was parried by Darren Clarkson.
