Fine and suspension for Fife Flyers’ defenceman

Fife Flyers’ defenceman Isack Bandu has been hit with a one-game ban after his first fight.

The blueliner will automatically miss Friday’s road trip to Glasgow Clan for the final game in the Challenge Cup qualifying section.

Bandu was suspended by the Elite League’s Department of Player Safety (DOPS) after dropping the gloves with Belfast Giants’ Morten Jensen, sparked by his poor check on Fife forward Cameron Hough.

Bandu was assessed a fighting instigator, major and mandatory game misconduct - but because it happened in the final five minutes of regulation time, it automatically triggered supplementary discipline.

They player was also fined, and DOPS said the incident will be recorded on his record for the remainder of the 2026/27 season.

The disciplinary body invoked Rule 46 on fight which states that “a player who is deemed to be the instigator/aggressor of an altercation in the final five minutes of regulation time or at any time in overtime shall be suspended for one additional game, pending a review of the incident.”

The suspension also hands Tim Wallace, head coach, a real headache as he goes into Friday’s game with defencemen Kyle Watson and Reece Kelly away with Team GB, and Joona Vainio recovering from a lower body injury.
