R&A hopeful fans can attend 149th Open Championship
Planning for the Major is underway with organisers preparing to hold it behind closed doors if need be.
But in an interview with Sky Sports, Martin Slumbers suggested there is hope that golf fans can watch the action close up themselves.
He said: "I think there's a very good possibility we will be able to have spectators, but we will have to wait and see how many.
"We are balancing the health and safety of everyone involved, but I strongly believe The Open needs spectators.”
A limited number of patrons will be allowed entry to the Masters in April.
