Since 2016, KOS has presented an ‘Extra’ concert, that in the nature of extending the season a little to allow its enthusiastic members to keep playing together.

Past programmes have included contemporary and baroque elements, often providing a platform for soloists.

This year’s programme consists of a pot-pourri of styles and tunes, much of the music recognisable to many, especially to the sell-out audiences which KOS enjoyed over its five concert performances for the season to date.

The community orchestra continues to bask in the glory of its award win at the Royal Philharmonic Society’s 2026 Awards in March.

Among the programme for Tuesday’s concert are the Overture to HMS Pinafore, Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine, a short picturesque work by Aaron Copland entitled John Henry and – for the first time for many years – KOS joins with well known organist Robin Bell to perform Handel’s Organ Concerto in Bb (op 4, no 6) with the fine Gern organ of the Old Kirk heard to great advantage.

The organ will feature further in two short pieces for violin and organ performed by Robin and the orchestra’s musical director.

Admission is £5, payable at the door. The concert begins at 7.30pm on Tuesday, May 5 in the Old Kirk, Kirkcaldy.
