Magic and mystery at St Andrews Library

It’s the season of spells and mystery and St Andrews Library is entering into the spirit with a magical day featuring Tayport author Elisabeth Flett.

Saturday, November 7 will see the library hosting a creative writing session and talk from the feminist author, theatre-maker and musician, whose book No Such Thing as Kelpies explores the myths and legends of queer Scottish folklore with a fresh outlook.

Thirteen short stories are interwoven in a blend of contemporary fantasy and fairytale with old and new combined in a spellbinding mix.

And readers and anyone interested in Scottish folklore can find out more about the stories and their origins and try their own hand at writing some of their own in the workshop and talk.

Elisabeth will lead the queer folklore-themed workshop – entitled Whose Lore is it Anyway? – at the library from 11-12.30pm, giving budding or established writers the opportunity to tell their own fairytales and stories.

Then in the afternoon from 2-3pm Elisabeth will talk about her life, writing and associated subjects in a free session.

Places must be booked in advance by emailing [email protected].

Ellie Pedrazzi, OnFife Libraries Assistant Area Manager, said: “It’s always good to feature local authors and Elisabeth’s workshop and talk is bound to be a spellbinding experience.

“Make sure to book your place so you don’t miss out.”
