Eddie ready for Forth Bridge abseil

A Kirkcaldy daredevil is ready to take on one of Scotland’s most thrilling fundraising events to support Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS).

Eddie is ready to take on the Forth Bridge Abseil to raise money for CHSS after having a transient ischemic attack (TIA) in October 2025.

The 38-year-old, who is a Community Peer Volunteer with the charity, said: “I was coming back from work, and I couldn't speak for an hour and a half and I didn't know what was wrong with me.

“I’ve got a speech impediment, but my friend said that something wasn’t right and suggested I get medical help ASAP.

“I dialled 111 and the next thing I knew, an ambulance came for me and I was rushed to hospital. If it wasn’t for my friend I think I would’ve been in a worse place.

“It was a bit of a shock to me.

“I was still volunteering with CHSS at the time but I had to take a step back. I was able to use the charity's Advice Line though which was a help.

“I just wanted to give something back to the charity. When the abseil came up, it was just a no-brainer that I wanted to do it.

“I'm excited to do it because it's a thing that I want to do, I want to push myself. The only way that I can get through my stroke and put things behind me is to get through things, keep a sense of humour and just do new things and throw myself into the deep end.”

He added: “I just can't wait to do it.”

The event, run by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland in partnership with Network Rail and Balfour Beatty, has raised more than £3 million for charities across Scotland since 2003.

Stephanie Wilks, Community, Events and Corporate Fundraiser for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland said: “There’s still time for people to join forces for an unforgettable experience which makes such a powerful difference to the one in five people across Scotland living with one of our conditions.

“Our fundraising team is ready to help you get prepared for the big day but there are only a limited number of spaces left so we would encourage anyone who wants to take part in a truly thrilling fundraiser to sign up now.”
