Fifer's abseil for stroke charity

A Fife fundraiser is ready to take on one of Scotland’s most thrilling fundraising events to support Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS).

Mark Cooper, from Glenrothes, is preparing to take on the Forth Bridge Abseil to raise money for CHSS in memory of his mother-in-law, Sheena Anderson, died of a “catastrophic” stroke.

Mark said: "I'm raising money in memory of my mother-in-law, Sheena Anderson, who suffered a catastrophic stroke just a couple of years ago in the hope that something good can come out of something so devastating.

“I'm also doing this for the many other families who continue to go through similar experiences.

“By supporting me in this challenge, you'll be helping make a real difference to people recovering from a stroke, and to families who are struggling or facing uncertainty.

“Every penny raised will allow Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland to reach even more people who desperately need help through its Community Healthcare Support Service. It truly means more than I can say."

More thrill-seekers in Fife are being encouraged to sign up as well for the chance to descend from the UNESCO World Heritage Site on Sunday, October 4.

The event, run by Scotland's largest health charity Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland in partnership with Network Rail and Balfour Beatty, has raised more than £3 million for charities across Scotland since 2003.

Stephanie Wilks, Community, Events and Corporate Fundraiser for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, said: “There's still time for people to join forces for an unforgettable experience which makes such a powerful difference to the 1 in 5 people across Scotland living with one of our conditions.

“Our fundraising team is ready to help you get prepared for the big day, but there are only a limited number of spaces left, so we would encourage anyone who wants to take part in a truly thrilling fundraiser to sign up now.”
