More storms and flooding could hit this week

Scotland faces another week of storms and flooding as a massive Atlantic storm heads towards the country.

According to the Met Office, “angry” weather conditions are on the way with two inches of rain forecast to land on areas already suffering the legacy of Storm Desmond.

Power cuts have hit Scotland and the North of England while hundreds of families have been evacuated from their homes.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Tuesday will bring more rain everywhere and there is a risk of gales, especially around coastal areas, as a wild system moves in throughout Wednesday and Thursday.

“There could be a respite at the end of the week but it’ll feel much colder as temperatures drop to typical levels for the time of year.”

A Red ‘take action’ warning for rain is now in place for parts of the Scottish Borders and Cumbria, with rainfall totals of 60 to 200mm expected in some areas, while significant rainfall is expected in northern England, western Scotland and Northern Ireland.

On top of that, an Amber ‘be prepared’ warning for wind is in place for parts of the south east of Scotland and north east of England, as well as parts of the Pennines, with gusts of 70-80mph likely.

There are a total of 270 flood warnings in place with yellow warnings affecting: Central, Tayside & Fife, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde, North West England, Northern Ireland and Yorkshire & Humber.

Ironically, provisional statistics just released show that November 2015 was the dullest on record and also quite warm.
