Cyclist Markus Stitz to speak in Kirkcaldy
Cyclist Markus Stitz is to give a talk in Kirkcaldy about his travels in the Mississippi Delta.
In his talk for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS), Markus will recount a journey from the mountain bike trails of Bentonville and Fayetteville through Hot Springs and Little Rock to the cotton fields, gravel roads and river towns along the Mississippi.
Combining cycling, music history and encounters with local people, the story explores the birthplace of Delta blues, the legacies of farming and segregation, and how gravel cycling can support communities.
He said: “The Arkansas Delta is a fascinating place for gravel riding. I covered only 60 miles over three days, but distance was never the point.

“For me, cycling is about everything that happens around the riding: the sights, sounds and smells, the people I meet, and the stories held in the landscape. Pedalling through vast cotton and soy fields, I could imagine the music and history that have travelled through these small towns for generations.
“Those three days were enough for the Arkansas Delta to draw me in completely.”
Markus will appear at The Old Kirk, Kirkcaldy on Monday, November 16 at 7.30pm. Tickets are free for RSGS Members, students and U18s. General admission is £15.
Tickets are available to book online in advance at rsgs.org/events and are also available to buy at the door.
