Most dramatic of wins as Kirkcaldy Rugby Club eventually see off Preston Lodge
Dramatic, close finishes to Kirkcaldy Rugby Club matches seem to have been commonplace this season, but last weekend’s home Arnold Clark National League Division 2 encounter versus Preston Lodge seemed to have even more excitement than usual.
Despite turning up at Beveridge Park as clear favourites to win against a Preston side sitting bottom of the league table, Kirkcaldy were losing 22-15 after a first half in which their tries were scored by Mark Duckett and Rhys Bonner.

It was no less comfortable for the Blues in the second half, although tries by Conar Littlejohn and Charlie Dineen, allied to a successful late kick by Ethan Murray – who during the match scored with two conversions and two penalties – ultimately gave them the victory by the narrowest of margins.
“I feel relieved about it,” matchwinner Murray told club media post match. “Throughout that game we had many opportunities to score multiple more tries.

"But to get it over the line in the end is a great relief.”
And try scorer Dineen added: “It was my first try for the club in about 20 years since I played for the Wee Blues!
"So it was really, really good for me to get on the scoresheet.
"It only took me about five games to get it so I’m really happy.”

Kirkcaldy, eighth in the league table on 20 points from nine fixtures, have no competitive fixture this weekend and are next in action at National 4 outfit Garnock in a National League Cup tie which kicks off at 1.30pm on Saturday, November 14.
"It feels like a well earned break,” Dineen said. “We’ve had a couple of tough games so it is needed.”
