Fife has many unsung heroes who have gone the extra mile to help others during the coronavirus lockdown. They are working hard behind the scenes to make sure that our buses still run, our prescriptions dispensed, and our services all keep ticking over. They deserve their moment in the spotlight as part of our Big Thank You.

Roy Harley, from Buckhaven is a sign designer for The Sign Company in Kirkcaldy and has been designing floor stickers, posters and protective screens to help businesses open up.

Roy said: “We have been trying to work as normal as possible during the lockdown.

“We have been making a lot of social distancing signs and posters to remind people to keep their distance when they are in shops, and we have been making screens for checkouts and hairdressers as well.

“A lot of people and businesses are determined to get back to work as soon as restrictions are eased. We have all the facilities to design and make everything here in Kirkcaldy so it’s good to know that we are helping people get back to work.”

Roy, who has worked at The Sign Company for five years, says making the protective screens can be quite time consuming.

That has helped the company to continue operating during lockdown.

Roy said: “I know that it is not normal, but it feels normal. We have all the proper PPE and we are sticking to the social-distancing rules when we are dealing with customers or delivery drivers.

“Everything that we do is done as it should be, with things being sterilised and we follow the correct procedures to keep ourselves safe.”
